First Year Writing

The mission of First-Year Writing is to provide students with a foundation in composition by fostering the development of strategies that will empower them to be successful in future writing situations they encounter in academic and professional environments and in their communities as active, engaged citizens. Students take a two-semester writing sequence comprised of WRT101 Writing I and WRT102 Writing II . Writing I focuses on writing as a process and introduces students to a variety of genres and strategies to use as writers. Writing II builds on what students learn in Writing I and focuses on research and public writing.

Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC)

The mission of Lasell University's Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program is to encourage, support, and celebrate writing throughout our community. Building off foundational work in the First-Year Writing Program, Lasell students take two Writing Intensive (WI) courses in their major, one at the 200-level and one at the 300 or 400 level. These courses integrate best practices in Writing in the Disciplines to help students develop skills in the composition processes and genres central to their field of study. The WAC program also works closely with all faculty to effectively integrate meaningful writing opportunities into their courses. The WAC program sponsors programming such as professional development sessions for faculty, Write Night events, and the annual Ruth Paetz Braun Undergraduate Connected Learning Writing Awards.
